Where commerce began

Originally constructed in 1917, the Auckland City Markets Building stood in the heart of the city’s original markets quarter. It housed some of Auckland’s earliest fruit and vegetable auction houses, including Produce Markets, Turners & Growers and Radley & Co.

For more than 80 years, this was a vibrant dockside hub where much of Auckland’s early commerce took shape. Today, that legacy is being honoured as Market Lane is reimagined to balance its heritage character with contemporary design and modern amenity.

With the guidance of Ignite Architects, the refurbishment will celebrate the building’s laneway position, the distinctive concrete structure, and generous ceiling heights, restoring it close to its original form where possible to deliver a unique character building - future-ready environment for today’s occupiers.

From produce market to vibrant business hub, proudly carrying a rich legacy since 1917.
