Waterfront Auckland
Sitting directly between Viaduct Harbour and Commercial Bay, Market Lane enjoys a prime waterfront position at the heart of Auckland’s CBD. Commercial Bay delivers Auckland’s newest and most sought-after corporate destination, while Viaduct Harbour is the city’s premier hospitality precinct with over 30 bars and restaurants, placing Market Lane squarely between business and lifestyle.
Immediately to the east, the proposed Downtown West development will add two new towers with office, apartment and hotel accommodation, lifting the profile of the wider precinct. The planned removal of the Hobson Street overbridge, and new vehicle and pedestrian layouts will significantly improve access, visibility and street presentation.
Just a five-minute walk from the upgraded CRL-enabled Britomart Station, the main bus interchange and multiple parking buildings, Market Lane is exceptionally well connected for staff, clients and visitors.
Where commerce began
From produce market to vibrant business hub, proudly carrying a rich legacy since 1917.
Originally constructed in 1917, the Auckland City Markets Building stood in the heart of the city’s original markets quarter. It housed some of Auckland’s earliest fruit and vegetable auction houses, including Produce Markets, Turners & Growers and Radley & Co.
For more than 80 years, this was a vibrant dockside hub where much of Auckland’s early commerce took shape. Today, that legacy is being honoured as Market Lane is reimagined to balance its heritage character with contemporary design and modern amenity.
With the guidance of Ignite Architects, the refurbishment will celebrate the building’s laneway position, the distinctive concrete structure, and generous ceiling heights, restoring it close to its original form where possible to deliver a unique character building - future-ready environment for today’s occupiers.
